Grants Process in brief

  • All applicants must submit an Expression of Interest
  • If you are seeking more than $1,500 we may ask you to fill in an Application.
  • Grants will be presented at one of three presentation ceremonies.
  • Grants must be acquitted (i.e. the funds accounted for).


Grant Guidelines

The Mumbulla Foundation, in partnership with the Bega Valley Shire Council, is offering funds for the 2010 grants. The intention of the grants is to help improve the economic, environmental, social and cultural well being of people in the Bega Valley Shire. Of the $50,000 available, $25,000 is contributed by the Bega Valley Shire Council to address the priority needs of BVSC Social Plan.

To apply for a grant an organisation must:

  • Be incorporated, have an ABN or be sponsored by an organisation that is incorporated or has an ABN
  • Be not-for-profit
  • Be located in the Bega Valley Shire
  • Be capable of running the project to completion
  • Be committed to provide in-kind contributions and voluntary hours.
  • NOT be a Local, State or Federal government organisation.

To receive a grant the organisation must have acquitted their 2006, 2007, 2008 and/or 2009 grant/s.

The following types of projects may be considered for funding:

  • Workshops, seminars, forums.
  • Training, support for volunteers.
  • Equipment that furthers the objectives of the organisation or assists volunteers.
  • Community education projects.
  • Resource or information kits, local history.
  • Music, theatre, arts or cultural activities or events.

Funding will not be considered for the following:

  • Building projects requiring Council approval, vehicles, equipment maintenance
  • On-going salaries
  • Overseas study or travel
  • Completed projects
  • Sporting bodies
  • Animal welfare organisations
  • Religious or political activities
  • Commercial enterprises
  • Fund raising activities
  • Research projects.


How to apply for a grant

  1. Complete an Expression of Interest form and post it to the Mumbulla Foundation, P.O. Box 629, Bega, 2550. The Expression of Interest form must be received by 5.00 pm, 10th September 2010.

  2. If you are seeking a grant of $1,500 or less your project will be judged on the information you provide in your Expression of Interest.

  3. If you are seeking a grant of more than $1,500 you may be asked to complete an Application  Form. Post two copies of the completed Application Form to the Mumbulla Foundation at the above address. Applications must be received by the Mumbulla Foundation by 5.00 pm, 22nd October, 2010.

  4. Organisations should discuss (by email or phone) the project with the Foundation before submitting an Application Form.

  5. All Organisations submitting an Expression of Interest or an Application will be advised of the Board's decision during the first week of December, 2010. Formal presentation of the grants will take place during January. The details of presentations are yet to be finalised.

  6. Please be aware that the Mumbulla Foundation pays all grants over $1,500 in two installments, with the final installment of $250 being paid on receipt of your grant acquittal.

  7. Please also be aware that you may not receive the full amount you have requested. The Foundation receives far more very worthwhile submissions that we are able to fund.

  8. If your project is funded you will be required to:

    1. Attend one of the Grant Presentation Ceremonies to receive your grant
    2. Acknowledge the source of funding for your project (in any publicity, press releases etc)
    3. Complete the acquittal process by 31st December 2011.
    4. Submit, with your Acquittal, copies of articles and/or photos that the Mumbulla Foundation can use to demonstrate its role in your project to potential sponsors, donors and the wider community.  We would like digital photos of your project to put on the Mumbulla website.

2010 Grant Timetable - Summary

  • 26th July 2010 – Mumbulla Foundation 2010 grants open
  • 20th September 2010 – Expressions of Interest due by 5pm
  • 22nd October 2010 – Applications due by 5pm
  • First week of December 2010 – Applicants notified of the outcome
  • January 2011 – Grant Presentations
